Design
Green Gene's Horticulture offers several different types of designs from basic sketches to professional, scaled formal landscape plans with legends. Our landscape plans include seasonal color and often incorporate the usage of perennials, annuals, shrubs and trees. We strive to provide color throughout the growing season.
Consulting
Green Gene's Horticulture offers consultations which include a walk-thru of your property or commercial site in which we address your landscaping concerns by fielding questions, proposing remedies and solutions such as right plant/right place, and offering guidance on the functionality of plants in correlation to their surroundings. Likewise, we offer comprehensive consultations on plants, shrubs, trees, lawns, and theme gardens as well as consultations on insect and disease diagnoses which may affect your investments.
Upon completion of the consultation, we offer a formal, written proposal which details the necessary materials, cost and labor associated with the project. If we are awarded the project assignment as a result of the consultation, then GGH will refund the paid consultation fees associated with the signed proposal or deduct the charges from the project cost.
Installations
Green Gene's Horticulture installs many different sizes of plants from ground covers to B&B (balled & burlapped) materials. We are highly skilled at transplanting existing plant material and we specialize in introducing large plants into existing landscapes with nominal disruption to the environment.
Organic Programs
We specialize in providing individualized organic programs designed to meet your specific needs. Our organic programs include lawn treatment programs, fertilizer programs and insecticide programs. Our organic lawn treatment programs include the preparation and maintenance of perennial beds with 100% organic products. Organic products work best if they are administered as a preventative.
Over time, organic materials decompose and further release natural organic material which naturally feed the soil and are cleaner for the environment. In contrast, non-organic materials can leave a negative residue that can pollute the natural ground water, cause run-off, and require a greater amount of nutrients to sustain the soil's organic content.
Our organic fertilizer programs are designed for your shrubs, trees, ground covers and perennials. These programs are applied several times throughout the growing season in order to sustain and enhance the soil's organic content. Many of our organic insecticide programs act as repellants, eradicating insects before they become pests, while others eradicate insects by desiccating the insect's outer armor thus breaking down the external membrane rendering them inactive.
Natural Stonework
Green Gene's Horticulture offers natural stone work such as walkways, patios, retaining walls, and individualized stone work. We can beautify your landscape and help improve your walkways, walls and patios by providing a specific plan based upon your personal needs. We install dry stacked stone and mortared stone depending upon the application needed.
Draining Systems
Because some NC soils exhibit poor drainage qualities due to the clay content that is present, many landscapes do not properly drain and move water away from foundations and plant beds. As a result, some plants have shown signs of root rot due to poor drainage including azaleas, camellias, rhododendrons, and boxwoods, just to name a few. For those reasons, Green Gene's Horticulture will devise a drainage solution specific to your environment which moves water away from your foundation and plant beds thus reducing the likelihood of root rot and other diseases that may affect your investments.
Insect Disease Diagnosis & Control
Green Gene's Horticulture offers insect and disease diagnosis programs that are both preventative and curative. All programs are based on your specific needs and last throughout the growing season. The extent of these programs varies based upon the type of plants, trees, shrubs and groundcovers present in your landscape. We offer organic insecticides for those who are conscientious about the environment (see our Organic Programs section).
Interior & Exterior Plantscaping
Green Gene's Horticulture specializes in interior and exterior plantscaping. We can devise a plan for all of your horticultural needs and we handle all aspects of plantscaping from landscape designs to plant installations. Likewise, we have access to a wide assortment of ground covers, annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, etc. which enable us to provide an individualized, one-of-a-kind, exotic plan to fit your needs.
Plant Rehabilitation
Green Gene's Horticulture can inspect your plants (i.e. annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees) to determine plant vigor and potential deficiencies that may exist. We determine pH levels by obtaining soil samples. Upon analyzing soil samples, we will review the results with you in detail in order to determine the solution to properly correct the problem. We offer many solutions to properly rehabilitate your plants and render them healthy once again.
Plant Injecting Service
We offer many programs to improve your plants' appearance as well as aid in soil porosity and drainage. Through experience, we have observed that shrubs and trees have greatly benefited from the injecting services. As a result, plant roots tend to increase more rapidly on treated plants than those not treated. There is an exponential increase in plant growth shortly after plants are injected and they tend to exhibit a healthier, more vigorous and deeper green appearance. Since the injection process occurs in the soil around the base of the tree, specifically at the zone of absorption, plants are able to ingest fertilizer and insecticides more readily, allowing the nutrients and chemicals to demonstrate an immediate benefit.
Another benefit of the injection process is improved soil porosity which occurs as a result of the probe that is used during the injecting procedure. The probe allows roots to delve deeper into the soil by creating an opening which enables them to more easily penetrate the soil, thus increasing the growth process. Plant injecting is particularly crucial for North Carolina clay soils which demonstrate an inability to properly drain and absorb nutrients. Plant injecting has proven that treated plants grow more rapidly and absorb nutrients more quickly than non-treated plants.
Individualized Lawn Program
Green Gene's Horticulture provides lawn programs based on the soil nutrient content. Every soil has a different nutrient requirement which is indicated by a soil sample test administered at the North Carolina Department of Agriculture (NCDOA). We routinely take soil samples to the NCDOA in order to determine the soil pH. Once the soil pH is determined, we can devise and administer organic programs based on individual requirements. Our lawn programs include insecticide and fertilizer applications administered throughout the growing season. Maintenance
Green Gene's Horticulture offers an extensive maintenance program that occurs in February through December. It involves pruning, spraying to control insects and diseases, and the fertilization of lawns, shrubs, trees, annuals and perennials. When pruning, we examine the plants for new diseases that may have come about since our last visit.
